Room Data Sheets SmartTool

Room data sheets (or RDS) are used to capture in a systematic manner the details and specifications for each space on the project. They are typically prepared by the client at the time of briefing (also known as architectural programing in the US) of the design process. They can be updated throughout the design process to reflect modifications or to provide more information to those who are responsible for delivering the project.

The Room Data Sheets SmartTool is an accurate and reliable sheet that lets you view and schedule your building utility for creating rooms (or space) data sheets within the Revit project. The tool can generate 3D plans elevations, sheets, and schedule views of rooms or spaces.

The default setting is to use the Room Numbering template and Sheet Format set by the Revit project, however, a different sheet name and style can be selected from the Tool Options tab. You can also click ‘Load Config’ …’ on the toolbar to load previously saved configurations which will replace the current settings. This can reduce the amount of manual rework required for different rooms and types.

The ‘Naming’ tab allows users to choose whether the selected room/space is included in the sheet’s Name text box that appears on the left side of the screen. The ‘View Name’ field is the text that appears in the title bar for each view, while “View Increment” specifies the increment of numbers between each view after it is placed on the sheet. The ‘Spacing:’ option can be enabled to control the space between each view on the sheet and the ‘Exclude View Titles in estimating view sizes on Sheets:’ will stop titles from being included in determining the number of views that could fit on a page.
